Does
the program have to be a schoolwide event? Can just one class
participate?
We
run the
Kids Recycling Challenge on a school-wide basis - we can only have one
contact
per school. Schools are free to divide the contest and rewards among
classes in
any way they wish, though, but it is up to the schools to track each
class'
results. |
|
|
What
are the recycled bags turned into?
Recycled plastic grocery and shopping bags are
currently being made into new consumer products such as clean new
plastic
shopping bags, outdoor decking and railing products, park benches,
garden and
lawn edging, and decorative tiles to name just a few.
|
|
|
How are
things going so far?
The Kids
Recycling Challenge has been an
overwhelming success. Since its
inception in December 2004, nearly 2,800 schools have participated, and
have
already recycled more than 1,400
tons of
plastic bags, earning more than $1.2
million from Wal-Mart!

do we
bring our bags for recycling?

|
|
|
Do we have to
bring our collection bags to a Wal-Mart store in our region?
No.
You can bring them to any store on the list. The stores on list are the only
ones able to
accommodate bags. However, we recommend using the same store to ensure
that our
associates are able to answer your questions and better support your
school.

Do we
mail my drop-off receipts every month?
No,
schools
are responsible for holding on to the
Receipt page until March 31, 2008.

your local Wal-Mart Store to
ensure your receipt is

|
|
|
How
can we
order more supplies?
|
|
|
Who
are we
competing against?
Participating
schools are grouped into geographic regions. You are competing
only against other schools in your region for the cash grants and
assembly. The level of competition in each region is
determined by the number of participating schools.
The
states of Arizona,
Arkansas,
Colorado,
Idaho, Montana, Nevada,
New Mexico,
Oregon,
Utah, Washington and Wyoming
are considered
regions. Due to its
size and number of
schools participating, California
has been divided into multiple regions.
|
|
|
How
are the
regions defined?
Several
factors have been used to determine the regions, including geography,
the number of eligible schools, and the number and location of Wal-Mart
stores in the region. In general, each state is one region.

Is the Kids
Recycling Challenge limited to Wal-Mart bags only?
No, we accept plastic bags from all
grocers and
retailers. You can
recycle plastic
shopping and grocery bags of any color and type except black (black
printing on
the bags is ok-black bags are not).
|
|
|
What kinds of
bags can we recycle?
You
can recycle plastic
shopping and grocery bags of any color and type except black
(black printing on the bags is ok - black bags are not).
Be sure to remove everything from the plastic
bags prior to recycling – including register receipts. We can
also accomodate newspaper bags and drycleaning bags, as long as they
are clean, dry and empty.
Please note that we cannot take
produce bags or any bags that have been in direct contact with food
because fruits, veggies and other foods tend to contaminate the bags
and jam the recycling machines.
|
|
|
How
tightly should we pack our collection bags?
Bags are ready to be turned in when the recycling bin is full enough to tie the 60-gallon bag at the very top. At no time should any location weigh the bags before they will be accepted.
Please note that Wal-Mart associates reserve
the right to refuse any collection bags that they do not consider to be
full. |
